It could perhaps be the fact that you're unconsciously biased towards a certain genre. Both 'License to Live' and 'Bright Future' are pure human dramas, they're different from 'Cure'. I think all of them are kinos though. 'Cure' though, I'm definitely biased towards it because it's a genre I love so much. Kurosawa’s terrifying, borderline nihilistic critique of society, seen through a focus on the unknowable nature of evil, and perhaps more frighteningly, the banal evil that can lurk within everyday people. It's everything I wanted in a psychological-thriller film and Kurosawa couldn't have made it better than that even if he tried to, it was perfect. Pure fucking timeless masterpiece.
