To add to this, Eva-Beatrice is a curious case as she seems to represent various things over the curse of the story.

She starts out in Episode 3 as a piece on the gameboard representing another side of Eva, then ascends to a higher level upon solving the epitaph. At this point she seemed to be able to influence the gameboard’s scenario beyond Beato’s control, though this may have also been part of the plan to trick Battler. From a non-fantasy perspective, it’s likely that her influence was due to Tohya believing Eva was the true culprit at the time of Banquet’s writing. Either way, Eva-Beatrice still doesn’t seem able to access the actual Meta World until Battler pulls her there from the Gameboard.

After her defeat, she reappears in Episode 4 as a representation of the “black witch”, taking that form due to Ange’s lingering hatred for Eva. Then in Episode 6 she’s back to being just a piece representing Eva’s darker thoughts. Finally, in Episode 8 she seems to have ascended once again, this time as the personification of the Eva culprit theory in the future.
