I think its because dolls are affordable now. I personally thought it was "american hand made 10k dolls folded 2 times realdoll" or nothing until a few years ago. I mean why have a portable little waifu with some boxart when I can have a lifesize waifu i can dress as I please. And given that 500-1500 usd is not that much for anyone with a months worth of post-high school education can afford and pan that out for 9 or so years when affordable sexdolls have been a thing..
