Consider viewing the heroines of Tsukihime, in the proper order of Arcueid - Ciel - Akiha - Hisui - Kohaku, in relation to Shiki. There is a pattern.

- Arcueid is extremely dominant in the relationship. Despite all appearances and the way Shiki talks, ultimately it is him chasing her.
- Ciel is rather dominant. Shiki can try to keep up with her. She helps him and gives him the benefit of doubt because she sees him as herself earlier on the road.
- Akiha is more or less Shiki's equal. The relationship is a matter of personal pride for her. In Story for the Evening, we can see that they can both deal just fine with the relationship not working out.
- Hisui is rather submissive in the relationship. She does not understand half the shit that's going on half the time, and decides to provide Shiki with everything she can to deal with it, because he's the apparently least insane person around with the means to do so.
- Kohaku, for all her shit, is extremely submissive. Ultimately, she is the only heroine that truly needs the relationship.

Therin lies the uninterupted thematic line of the game. Like Shirou's progresses from an idiot to an adult through the three routes of Fate, Shiki progresses from someone passive in life, striving to live out his life while he has it, to someone more altruistic, actively shaping the events of his life.

Taken from /a/. Does everyone agree with this? I never thought of Tsukihime's routes as a "natural progression" in the way that FSN's are, I saw the Aoko epilogue as a logical conclusion to all the routes. But this actually makes quite a bit of sense.

Yeah, that seems wonky as fuck. But what did you think of it?
