I'm new to touhou but I'm struggling to figure half of this stuff out.

I tried looking up wiki and guides but nowhere seems to explain everything in full and just assumes I know some shit about the touhou series in general, which I don't.

Firstly, what the fuck is a border?
Secondly, When I see videos of the game, I often notice that during the downtime before a spellcard starts, that the player stops shooting. Why is that?

Sorry for wasting your time with my retarded questions but I figured you guys would know this stuff.
