In one way what you said it increased number of contributors to the project.
But it also split the fanbase between yet another fork, and increased the amount of discord drama in these threads.
I'm not sure if at the end of the day it was a positive change but at least we got the confirmation that TW won't be killed easily as there will be always an autist willing to maintain it.
