Rika's autistic social awkwardness didn't help Satoko's situation, but people like to stretch this and mischaracterize it as Rika "abandoning" Satoko. Rika is not acting with malintent.
Rika believes that she is at LEAST doing the bare minimum to give Satoko a helping hand, and she isn't, which is stupid of Rika, because it's obvious to anyone with social awareness that something bad is happening with Satoko and Satoko wants Rika to press her about it. Rika's attempt to defend Satoko backfires too, because she's a recluse who doesn't have the social awareness to understand that giving information to someone about your friend who hates your friend will only result in bad things for your friend.

This doesn't excuse Satoko's lack of agency nor her inability to function without being the center of attention, I believe that even without the looper shit, Satoko is ultimately the one who caused her own despair. She wasn't SOLELY responsible for it in the end, but none of this would have happened if Satoko had asked for help from Rika instead of seething, or taken Rika up on her offer for help.

A note on Rika's behavior at St. Lucia, btw, this is the Satoko looper timeline, but is still a good indicator of how Rika felt in the pre-loop one

You can tell even from Rika's reaction to Satoko's confrontation pre-murder, that she's frustrated with Satoko's actions but still loves her, even in the awkward situation of Satoko hugging her in front of everyone and telling her "this reminds me of the old days", Rika isn't embarrassed, she's a bit taken aback, then relieved because Satoko is finally opening up to her again.

it's not the love for Satoko that's the disease, it's the hatred for Rika, anon.

Satoko Syndrome is when that love warps into infatuation, an obsession that paints all of Satoko's actions in a positive light and rationalizes them as "Satoko can do no wrong, therefore Rika must be in the wrong".
