The SD characters in those countdown animations certainly are larger and higher quality compared to what we currently got in the game. Maybe they're hinting at an improved resolution, maybe even something fancy like vector-based sprites / UI which scale with your display resolution.

Live2D could be nice (if decently crafted, unlike in some other games), but it would just add another thing aside from bloom art where you have to wait for your favorite girl to get "upgraded".
