I'm like 99% sure I've seen a design where it was as I described in that it's not a true one piece of stretchy material. But more like some bloomers that reach the navel and extend under the top but aren't attached, however I cannot find a proper pic at the moment.

I'll put my trust in Ebi for this one and there are similar pics like his available for other botes and other fandoms.
