For me it ended with Saikoroshi.

What irritates me even more is how Ryukishi already showed that he's perfectly capable of coming back to a finished series several years later and writing a satisfying addition without screwing things up. Saku's Last Not of the Golden Witch was a perfectly enjoyable little epilogue-style story that didn't overstay its welcome or try to upheave major plot points from the original.
