There are other ways to gain immortality. It ends the same either way. Even if you lived into the extinction, the only ones who would remember you are Mokou, Kaguya and Eirin.
Becoming a youkai means you become some other form of abnormality existing in a shutoff reality (Gensokyo). If anything, you should ask if anyone here would take the Hourai Elixir.
In all ways, it is superior.
Regeneration? Check. You can come back regardless of how reduced to basic elements you are.
Long life span? You're immortal, unkillable, eternal for all is eternal, doomed to experience the unending void at the end of time.
Power? Just self improve. If Mokou can become an expert at fire magic, so can you. Maybe you can learn about some other magics and techniques.
Maybe you can invent things for all eternity. Bright minds come once a century, but what exactly IS a century to someone who is practically unaffected by time?
Heck, the only thing you have to worry about is if you like the way you look.
No, I wouldn't become a youkai. I'd be depending on other things to live instead of living naturally. The only thing bad about Hourai Immortals is that they starve too.
