I'm more or less following Higurashi discussion across multiple platforms and I have to say, maybe Ryukishi was justified in overly simplifying the mysteries in Sotsu and revealing literally everything in flashbak scenes.
there are so many people who don't understand Gou on its own and are confused as to what's going on, it's unbelievable.
On another note though, the shows seem to be fairly popular in the west.
