Interesting question, anon. Well there are two main schools of thought on the subject - the classicalist empirical worldview, and the prescriptivist value-assigned orientation. Currently, the academic debate centers around whether idols are pre-existing human agents that are venerated (and hence, idols would exist even if wota didn't); or instead they are the end result of the process of revering itself -a sort of manifestation of the wota mind, so to speak. Despite the different arguments and angles of attack on the deterministic essence of idol existence, they all (apart from a few outlier 'rogue thinkers') seem to agree on the main adoration themes which underpin the falsifiable-yet-subjectivist characterizations of idolatry, which are that.....
