Rena: Ryuukishi's early works were a little too edgy for my tastes, but when Rei came out in '09, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The entire anime has a clear, crisp art style, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the series a big boost. He's been compared to Nasu, but I think Ryuukishi has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

Rena: Yes it is! In 2011 [play cassette], Ryuukishi released this, Kira, his most accomplished series. I think his undisputed masterpiece is 「Happy! Lucky! Dochy!」, a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about slice of life happiness, and the importance of trusting your friends, it's also a personal statement about anime itself.
