The first of the bullets were simple to dodge, smaller stars that were of variable speeds spread over a decent enough arc enough to keep her moving to and fro. Hana wanted more; this wasn’t nearly enough to force her to use her ability!

The wave of training bullets was just the start of course, the stream of small stars narrowed as her larger bullets meant for herding shot out in a loose spiral out from around her in all three dimensions. It was almost too much but Hana didn’t want to use her ability just yet, she could last a bit longer.

She focused her mind from all extraneous thoughts, ducking, weaving, and misdirection were the way to go right now. Eventually she got into the swing of things properly. Now that she was in the zone, she even had time to let her mind get in an extra thought or two. She swam against the bullets letting them misdirect and she took that break in the flow to shoot up for a second as she summoned a magical seal onto Marisa which latched onto her clothing.

Grinning as she did so Marisa waved her hand sending an arc of bullets her way which Hana hurriedly dodged before feeling the heat of it across her face, way too close! Still now that Hana had backed up, she was safe enough and had proved her point so it was worth it.

The real test was now to come. She saw Marisa reach into her pocket and pull out the characteristic cards she favored, complete with little hearts and stars completely unbefitting of a woman her age. With a shout she heard Marisa whip out the spell card she favored using for Hana’s training, “Love sign, non-directional laser!”

There it was! A sphere of light comprised of magical script surrounded Marisa and bathed her in that light the flashy multi colored lasers Hana dreaded burst forth from in all directions along with torrents of bullets big and small! Hana could do it, she studied this card enough to know that they had a pattern, as hard as it was to see in the moment.

The bullets flew at her guiding her into a laser, the laser flew at her guiding her into a bullet. The smaller stars worked tirelessly to do the job of sorting her out. It was a storm that she normally couldn’t last against for this long, but Hana wasn’t the same normal Hana. Or so she would brag later if she could pull this off…

Letting the grid that formed her world squeeze the reality in front of her was no longer the world she was born into. Like she was looking through a sort of lens it became ‘distorted’, but to Hana it was just as natural as her mind grasped it perfectly. The lasers and bullets which surrounded her were formidable, they came from the ‘front’ as she would understand it normally but here? It was different.

Flying diagonally, she lurched ‘forward’, the bullets passed by her harmlessly as she simply flew to where they weren’t allowing the world to roll on itself as she found herself to the side of her mentor. A laser was coming now as well as the herding bullets, the path ‘forward’ was clear.

She ducked ‘into’ the laser and wall of those large bullets as the magical smaller stars doggedly followed her strange movements with, well… magic. Hana grinned as she saw the surprise on her mentor’s face and shouted out, “You’ll have to pull out a million cards before you can hit me like that!”

Hana knew she was acting way too cocky, but she didn’t care. This freedom, this unbridled feeling of superiority, breaking past her old limits and becoming more; it was intoxicating! She knew that like this, she could take on anyone in danmaku or direct combat. She’d be unstoppable! With this ability could be anywhere, move wherever she pleased, go through anything she wanted. If she wanted, she could even condense herself so no human eye could find her!

Finally, the spell card wore out and not being able to help herself Hana appeared ‘above’ Marisa taking the long way of spiraling around her and flipping several times over. An action which in reality took less than a moment, she shouted, letting her voice follow the strange spaced-out lines so it came from below, “Over here Marisa-sensei!”

This naturally caused the witch to look down, and with a grin like a fairy pulling off the funniest prank in the world she launched a true seal down on her mentor’s head. Hana couldn’t help but laugh knowing that her mentor felt the disruption to her magic.

She reached up and fired off a few lasers in a cone but Hana saw this coming and dodged out of the way of the blast. She could see Marisa squint as she deftly tore off the seal on her hat and let it fly away to the dirt. Marisa’s face was appraising, no longer was it confused nor bored and, there was something else there.

Hana however, dismissed it as she danced around in the air going where she pleased dodging the shots in the meantime. She knew her sensei had more tricks up her sleeve if she wanted to get serious, but she read all her abilities so surely nothing could sneak up on her.
