I'm not defending Extella shit in the slightest, as I said it's pretty bad, though it's also just a forgettable spin-off (unlike GO).

Who does explaining the origin of a literal plot macguffin even matter to a writer's vision?

I can tell you don't have the same preferences as me or even value anything that makes Nasu's writing interesting or good in my eyes. But once again, I don't care about what you like, FGO is trash because it's by far the biggest thing neutering the existence of Nasu-only works in mediums that would be more fit for his style.

But it's not. Mahoyo VN is one of his best works. He had great concepts for characters with the Camelot order and Romani, they were just unfortunately wasted in a really trashy game that doesn't compliment them at all. He definitely still has it in him.
