Not him, but after a quick check, no actual US cruisers are relevant since the Virginia class was built back in the 70's (11,666 tons). The CG(X) Next Generation Cruiser program was canceled, but it gives hints:
>based on the 14,500 ton Zumwalt-class destroyer with additional ballistic missile defense and area air defense for a carrier group. These vessels were to enter service beginning in 2017. The program was ended in 2010 with its mission to be fulfilled by the successor to the Flight III Arleigh Burke–class destroyers.
>A reassessment in 2007 suggested splitting the CG(X) into two classes, fourteen Zumwalt-sized "escort cruisers" and five 23,000 ton ballistic missile defense ships.
Real ships classified as destroyers were treated as cruisers in practice by the program. Flight III Arleigh Burke got up to 9,700 tons. The "heavy cruiser" versions at 23,000 tons would've had more displacement than HMS Dreadnought, who hit 21,060t with deep load. Conte di Cavour's 1910 form was similar at 23,568t at standard load. She went up to 29,600t after reconstruction.
