The similarity is a part of her charm. I love the idea that somebody is being to Rin what Rin is to normal people - an insufferable cunt who regards her as lower than a cockroach and has nothing but taunts, put-downs and scorn for her. To round out the perfection, Luvia is polite and respectful to normal people who "really" should be beneath her. She sort of metes out social justice, in a bizarre way, though of course she doesn't think about that.

The funny thing is that after I found out about Luvia, I actually started liking Rin a bit more too. It's like as if in Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya there was suddenly a character who does to Haruhi what Haruhi does to everybody else - she'd be still annoying, but at least there would be some sort of payback.
