On /sci/, this was used to explain projections of a hypercube (so called 4 dimensional object).
Think of it this way, we in the 3 dimensional world cannot begin to perceive what a 4 dimensional object looks like, simply because we exist in a lower dimension. We can perceive 2D and 1D easily though.
As such, for any existence living a 2D existence, they cannot perceive what a 3 dimensional object looks like. They can only make a projection as to what it might look like. They have no sense of depth, and any "3DCG artist" might as well be a mathematician bent on mental masturbation.
