I haven't played it, so I have absolutely zero critiques for Kio Nachi or Aokana. I just don't like the vibes I've gotten from what I've seen. Over time I've become actively hostile towards eroge built around writing heroines that exist solely to make otaku losers happy and to sell merchandise/game copies. In other terms, I suppose I look for sincerity in characters/writing/etc, and if it becomes clear a heroine is primarily written to satisfy otaku fantasies, I lose that sense of sincerity and I stop caring whatsoever about the character. Everything I've seen from Aokana has given me those "this character was written to be a sex doll for otaku" vibes. Of course, I'm not actually saying that's the case, since I haven't read it. I'm just not currently interested in reading it, because it seems to me there's a good chance that will be the case. It doesn't help that Sprite was aggressively marketing merchandise for the heroines in such a way that made me sincerely question whether they had been devised with selling said merchandise in mind.

Basically, I'm autistic and prejudicial. I've read over 200 eroge and over that time I've come to really not like some things which I go overboard to avoid. I don't think I need to tell anyone here about just how many eroge have two-dimensional heroines scrubbed of any real depth or personality to satisfy otaku. In my quest to avoid encountering games like that I avoid a lot of big-name things, and Aokana is one of those things. Though I respect Watanabe enough to maybe give it a shot one day. The visuals are certainly appealing.
