Celebrate/congratulate and poetry/part of speech. So I would guess that it's some kind of celebration speech, but apparently it means shinto ritual prayer. Okay. And now let's see what the pronunciation is.

Wait, what? Those first three have nothing to do with the onyomi of either of those kanji. How can there be three different pronunciations for the same word?

I keep seeing things like this pop up all over the place. It would be easy enough if I just said 祝詞 = shinto prayer ritual and left it at that, but when I take the time to think about it then it's so confusing. I want to unlearn all of this kanji that's in my head because it keeps messing me up.

Which there might not be.
