I said "more recent" because of course they aren't the most recent, but they also aren't what we consider the old guard. But if we are going to separate the group as old and new AKB, I think they are better lumped together as new AKB, especially if you consider girls from Ryoka's gen are still the girls they put in the spotlight today.
