You can absolutely just play the video file. The JSON files are optional, for providing metadata to XBVR. XBVR = VR pr0n management library...thing, picrel. Browsing through 1000+ videos x 2-5 scenes is a gigantic pain in the ass in a file explorer. Pair it up with Heresphere, because fuck DeoVR, and you have an amazing library you can browse and search in VR, by tag, actress, studio, etc.

Normally you'd scrape metadata from R18, but there are some videos they just never pick up, and then they also haven't added shit since June 1st.

I am very happy I grabbed an Odyssey+ on clearance when they discontinued them. Tethered to a PC = minor inconvenience, but you can always count on being able to play whatever your PC can decode. Pluswhen it comes to gayming, performance is now tied to your PC, not the headset.

Only the screen quality, tracking, and if you want to be nitpicky, audio and controller are left up to the headset itself. But you can use any controller, and if you felt inclined to, use separate headphones. Plus this way you can use a wired ethernet connection to access a NAS...there's 125 Mbps non-JAV VR out there. Try that over Wi-Fi. Honestly even the usual 30 Mbps for JAV would make some Wi-Fi connections choke.
