Make them all like Rei Toei. They would be databases/AIs that manifest as your very personalized idol. That would still allow them to be singular beings even though everyone perceives them differently and their scene is way more rich and diverse than any single person could archive.
Or to better reflect the crowd-driven nature, Vocaloids could be just your personal androids, with many people having instances of same character/model/name, as it's often presented in manga and fanfics.
