Fureraba's idiot protagonist is a bag of fun, and the game's route structure in general works completely without harem stuff, with the player focusing on one girl from the word go. The game has name input at the beginning but you'd be better off leaving it at default because the default name is voiced + the protagonist's personality is pronounced enough to not really be a self-insert. However I didn't like Hayase Yuu's other games that much (to the point I couldn't really finish even one route) so he might be a one-trick pony or simply overexposure in my case, though I'm still having pretty high hopes for Making*Lovers since it looks like they're doing something a bit different with it.

Shigeta's games are pretty fantastic and I can wholeheartedly recommend all his games I've played: Pricchi has an actual story to go with the moe so it's hard to call it a regular moege and an amazing protagonist to boot, Twinkle Crusaders is way more light story wise and the protagonist is also decent if not as pronounced + he's voiced in battles like Pricchi's protag and completely voiced in the fan disc's main story. As bit of a downside Twinkle Crusaders' main game is seriously fucklong. MagiCha was also pretty great for two heroines at least, though its card system is a bit wonky and the main story has kind of crappy pacing with the vast majority of the game having no main plot stuff whatsoever (yet clearing all the heroine routes is required) until the very final route when things finally kick into gear. Nevertheless it's great if you're looking for moege and Orietta was pure love. I'm hyped for Paradise Ocean as well.

LxC and Cation games in general are more self-inserty, though LxC's protagonist really rubbed me the right way and has more character than the rest, however some of the routes in the first game supposedly have really shitty drama. Other games don't really delve into that sort of stuff or at least the routes I played didn't. Cation games in general seem to get a bit too heavily into H-scenes when the dating starts, much more than the other games I mentioned. Also of note is that the the games have different writers, with Insider's LxC1 and 2 being my favorites and leaps and bounds above the rest.

It's easily the best of the the three if you want more plot. Gameplay portions are also pretty enjoyable, though a tad bit too easy even on the hardest difficulty.
