What does "basic programming skill" means? Knowing how to make a calculator in a C# console application? That's nothing.

When you program a videogame, regardless of the language you use, means you have to know how to program videogames and make 3D applications (even if you make 2D games, you are still using 3D, when doing it on XNA and most game SDKs up to date). Entities, collision boxes, shaders, AI, path finding... also, making a game in XNA is not like puting 4 sprites into a single file and you're ready to go. You don't even have an editor or something, so you'll have to do it by yourself.

Also, .NET applications are ran into a virtual machine, pretty much like java. That means, less performance than if you just use Direct X with C++ or even Open GL. I don't even know why do you stick so much on Direct X anyways, having Open GL that allows you to make the same games, but being compatible with every single operating system in the market.
