We have enough ugliness in reality as it is. People turn to media as a means of escapism, anime/manga and so forth especially so.
No one wants to look at ugly girls with imperfections in their fantasy - they see enough of that sort of thing in real life.
I should think the same goes for dealing with girls that have terrible attitudes from poor upbringing and so on.

That is the difference between real life and fantasy. Real life is unforgiving, harsh, and cruel. It leaves you scarred mentally and physically.
There is very little beauty in real life - those that tell you that there is much are merely trying to keep their own imagined reality from crumbling in on itself.
This is why people who have many material possessions or much power in real life always crave more, in a futile attempt to find their own happiness.

It forever eludes them, and they die unfulfilled, in sadness, knowing that they wasted their entire lives in a wild-goose-chase that yielded no results whatsoever.
