I do, but I'd be hard pressed to nail them down, and individuals still vary to VERY large degrees. In a way I see them as a sort of "fair folk;" they have their own societal structures and rules they play by, even though they may seem incongruent or counterintuitive to us.
Different regions across Asia, too, have different reputations for their fox folk. In Korea, for example, they have a far worse reputation, being downright bloodthirsty.
For the latter part of your post I'm not quite sure what you mean, but it's the sort of ancient interplay between humans and foxes that contributes to the appeal. Sort of a... "associate species" doesn't sound quite right but I can't think of a better way to put it.
Even in MGE it's likely foxes were represented in the few that interacted peacefully with humans prior to the DL's takeover.
