“Attached? She is in heat, it’s not that unexpected.”

Bern continued to rub herself against his leg, still meowing at that exceptionally loud volume that she’d been at all week. It had been impossible to get to sleep lately with such noise, especially with her newly found fixation.
“It’s never normally been so... targeted, is it?”
Ikuko chuckled a little at his expense. “Perhaps not. Maybe she’s finally found something she likes about you.”
“What, my leg? You’ve got legs too, haven’t you? Yours even work properly too.”
“Maybe she’s finally realized you’re a man.”
He shot a glare in her direction. “You’re the one who assumed she was gay since she was always trying to attack me. We even wrote her like that in the forgeries, you were so set on it. Those seem pretty incompatible- oi!”
Bern had started nibbling on his leg, finding he was not granting her enough attention. Did she always have to jump to inflicting pain to get attention? And to his legs, too...
While he had finally started getting some feeling back in his legs after the help of hi- Battler’s sister, he still wasn’t able to walk on them yet, and so the only thing they seemed to get much use for currently was being Bern’s scratching post.
This behavior was something new though.
Back before all this, if she ended up in heat she’d wander around the mansion a little more, pee a little in some places that would inconvenience the maids the most, maybe yowl a little at most. Lately though, it seemed her behavior had picked up a little. Now she was always rubbing herself against him, vying for his attention all the time, presenting herself once or twice whilst he was staring at her...
“Gah... why couldn’t you have just gotten her spayed?”
“I’ve told you before, Tohya. I don’t believe in taking away little Bern’s ability to reproduce if she so wishes. She’s a very intelligent cat, I’m sure she’d weigh up all the risks.”
He scoffed. “More like you enjoy seeing what hijinks she gets up to while she’s all worked up like this. Like I said, you thought she was into girls not so long ago. You just thought it was funny seeing her piss off the maids with all the mess she’d make.”
She conspicuously hid her smirk. “Of course not. They’re very valuable workers paid by my family to keep our home clean and tidy, why would I ever want to see them suffer?”
“Because it’s the closest thing to manipulating real-life people you’ll get. Don’t think it isn’t obvious you enjoyed writing all the cruel things we did to Battler’s family, expositing on their panic and fear at the plans we’d create. That was all mostly you, as you’ll recall!”
“Yes, yes, I definitely enjoy seeing other people’s families in pain. What can I say? I quite enjoy seeing the rabble beneath me run around in fear.”
“Honestly... Why’d I have to get saved by the craziest recluse in the world?” He sighed to himself, only to get bitten by Bern again for not paying enough attention. “Ah! And the most demanding cat in the world too!”
Bern turned her head up away from him, but still was clearly looking at him. Little prissy shit...
“Buuut I love you both... That good enough for you?”
The cat seemed to almost nod at him, then went back to licking herself a little. It was kinda gross, but at least it wasn’t rubbing herself on him...
“That cat... I swear, she’s too smart for her own good.”
Their little spat seemed to have amused Ikuko somewhat. “Heheheh... Indeed, that cat of ours does seem to understand us much more than an ordinary one.”
“She’s not magic.”
“How do you know? Have you ever seen magic? How can you be certain that she is not more than an ordinary cat?”
“Because she isn’t. She’s just a regular old cat, Ikuko. A very smart cat, but she’s not magic.”
“I don’t think you give her enough credit, Tohya. Perhaps there is greater meaning to every action she takes that you just don’t understand since you can’t see magic...?”
“...Because I’m not a believer, so on and so forth. I get it. Hell, I think magic probably is real in some capacity. But I’ll tell you right now, she’s just a cat. Attach all the character you want to her, the real Bern’s just a cat.”
That seemed to amuse her to no end. “Hehehehehehe... Perhaps you’re right, Tohya. Perhaps...”
She always seemed to see things he couldn’t. Strange woman.

She sits around in a giant house all by herself writing stories she has no intention of anyone else seeing, with the only reason she ends up with actual company outside of the hired help she likely never talks to being because she almost crashed into a guy while driving around, presumedly for no reason since she's got servants to get anything she'd need. I don't think she hides it at all.
