Well, there's a lighter side to all of that - there are indie Vtubers who certainly started out of passion. I don't engage with that scene all that much, but Beatani comes into mind, I remember her giving her viewers tips on how to pirate (diy) merch and so on. As for gaming, there are indie devs and small studios who are neither greedy arseholes nor cringy political activists. Since I'm an FPSfag, the one that I know of is NewBlood interactive. Those guys make bloody good games and their interactions with their players are reminiscent of the old ID software. Hell, the new ID software has been a pretty decent studio so far. Point is, where the flame once shone bright, its embers still flicker and can be reignited.

The closest thing to social media that I use is a private Discord server for me and friends only and weird imageboards so I don't have much 1st hand knowledge myself. Although I have engaged with the topic of content algorithms promoting echochambers by showing people only what they want to see. I guess a similar phenomenon can occur without any machine intervention all it takes is one mod with unchecked power sperging out and banning everyone who does not share his views. And while an algorithm may be tweaked, difficult as it may be in case of huge websites, mod corruption is another matter. Although, imageboards generally avoid this problem, I guess having a hands-off moderation approach is not a bad idea.

Anyway, here's more sick 2hus being nursed to health.
