the difference is that shiki, unlike shirou, is not a random npc but the crystallization of an entire clan, and the son of DHO best demon hunter. besides kiri taught shiki, shiki was so talented that he was able to replicate kiri's movements merely by watching him. training with nanaya kiri is surely more valuable than anything shirou has learned from the world's greatest man-child. in any case, shiki's power works in the context of tsukihime's story because most characters are freak. if anything shiki looks cute compared to someone like akiha who is hyped to be a being born every 10k/year, or ciel despite being born from random npc inheriting crazy magic potential, or talent making her able to become a master in swordsmanship and archery in few years. if you label shiki as a gary stu, may as well apply the same standard for the other characters too.
