I don't see why not. The game has a year or so of mileage left before doomposting stops being just shitposting. It's very easy to get into at any point, new players are showered with gems, tickets and mats, and events are rerun all the time. It's a PVE game with a multiplayer focus so you don't actually need to have the latest powercreep, but it's true the oldest characters hit for peanuts compared to new ones so you may feel like you're dead weight if you use an old character. As long as you use someone you like that is semi recent it'll be fine. The story is decent too although it doesn't become interesting until EP2. If you like Star Ocean is worth checking out.
