In Japanese, corndogs are called "American dogs". Route 66 is perhaps the most American road. Tenshi is immersing herself in American culture, as it is seen by Japanese culture.

To an American eye, none of this makes sense. A corndog is just a corndog and a road is just a road. We cannot see what links them because we are immersed in Americanism like a fish in water.

So the image becomes nonsensical and therefore humorous. It entertains the newcomer, but also offers deeper comprehension to those in the know. This broad appeal makes the image especially memetically active.
