Levels for carriers don't matter much if they're covering a defensive role, like disable enemy carriers in the opening airstrike, all they've to do is bring green planes and one attack plane for support during shelling.
They indeed help, but having all lv90+ carriers is not really needed, exp them to 50, in 3-2A is extremely easy and you don't even have to bring a BB, just go with 6 carriers, or 5 + 1 sub.
