Hana didn't expect Kanako to react in such a way, she figured she was in trouble now. Her mentor not only wanted to keep her visits a secret, but maybe Marisa didn’t know just how opposed the gods of the Moriyan shrine were to it. Still, despite her powerful image of Marisa's true whimsical yet steadfast attitude Hana held deeper questions of what the witch was doing at her regular meetings with her father. She had little doubt about the witch’s sincerity and noble purpose, but the unease was irrational.

In retrospect, Hana had never seen a god blush, so this was a first to see the majestic figure of Kanako go red in the face. Kanako seemed to squirm at her words which Hana attributed to a deep rage barely contained, as Kanako’s wavering voice entered her ears Hana was frightened, “Y-you mean that Kirisame-san has been… she’s been… entering that place and all and d-doing… she’s all fussy and moody now on top of that?! And sometimes sick?!”

Hana was almost tearing up as that irrational panic welled up and could feel the lump in her throat form, did she just betray her mentor? Were her good intentions going to backfire? Was Hana’s precious mentor and the women she could almost see as her true mother going to land Marisa into receiving the ire of the very gods themselves? Hana could barely even nod as she knew her face was growing redder under Kanako’s barely concealed rage.

The goddess in front of her was still processing things as Hana couldn’t help but recall all the awful tales about the gods she could recall, petty revenge, horrible and infinite punishments, destruction of their very own lives and all future happiness. Did Hana make a mistake? She wasn’t her mother after all, there’s no way she could hold back the rage of a god of Kanako’s caliber!

Kanako opened her mouth to speak, the words forming behind her lips seemed posed to cast out a divine punishment as the red in her face must surely have been from her warth. Hana cut her off, she couldn’t… there was no way she could let her mentor and women she considered her closest ally be damned just because of her errant slip of the tongue!

With a throat pressed as if a ball were inflating inside of her Hana choked out, “P-please don’t be mad at her Kanako-sama… I know you don’t want anyone going there without permission but… but… I know Marisa-sensei is only trying to do something to help…!” She could feel the hot tears forming in her eyes, “I don’t want to see anything bad happen to her at all! I don’t wanna~!”

Hana was no longer looking at Kanako, her eyes watered and made the world blurry forcing her to close them as she tried swallowing the worst of fears and failed, all her ears could hear was the “w-wha- err, I’m not uh-! That’s-…”

Sobbing as the tears that breeched her thin defenses flowed out from her faster than she could wipe them from her face. It was all over if she couldn’t ease Kanako’s rage, it was all going to end for Marisa if she couldn’t, Marisa’s smile and friendly energy would be-!

Desperation was all she could feel as Hana spewed out anything she could think of to stay a god’s wrath, “Sensei wouldn’t have done it if she didn’t have a good reason and… and she’s a good person and doesn’t deserve to be punished for it! P-please don’t get mad her she wouldn’t be doing if it was for me so its me you should punish an-“

Racing thoughts were stopped in their tracks by a cool hand on her shoulder, she opened her eyes still unable to halt the flow of fear and tears. So this was it, she’d pass down her punishment to her and force Hana to deliv- “T-there’s no need to cry you know…! I-I’m not angry or anything. Really, I promise! J-just stop crying okay!”

For the first time after she started panicking Hana could truly see Kanako’s face, a desperate smile adorned her face as she leaned towards Hana. Kanako’s eyes were piercing red and the snake like slits of her pupils which normally put her on edge, but as Hana’s panic cleared, she could make out a desperation behind them like the one she used to receive when as younger and started bawling her eyes out in front of Marisa or even Alice way back when.

Speaking panic laden words Kanako stammered out, “E-even if she’s seeing him a whole lot I’m sure its fine and nothing b-bad is going on for real! I’m sure she’s just confused cause I would be too if… if…!”

As the danger she perceived passed and Kanako desperately tried comfort her Hana couldn’t help but let out a thin laugh as an embarrassed smile formed on her face. Hana felt like a fool.
