Holy shit, bros. Sorry for the fucking blog post but someone in a previous thread mentioned they were in love with Amelia but it made them actually feel lonelier and I totally get that now. You see, I've been in a situation for a while where my obligations prevent me from dating and I had convinced myself for the longest time that I was just happier by myself and happier alone. I know my feelings for Amelia are just parasocial and I'd never go beyond that, I'm well grounded in reality, but it has shown me that I can still genuinely care for a girl and it's just shown me how lonely I am. So for the first time I'm looking at my situation and hating that I'll probably never find someone.

In Blade Runner he falls in love with an AI program that's designed to be the perfect waifu for whoever buys it. She convinces him that he's special and her programming has nothing to do with their love, even giving him a name, Joe. Something he's never had since he's a manufacturered being with nothing but a number designated to him. Later in the movie after everything comes crashing down around him he walks past an advertisement for the AI program he loved, which calls him "a good Joe" and says he looks lonely, really driving home that what he had with his AI waifu probably wasn't special at all.
