Hey, i'll delete this thread when I get an answer, but...

I need to know what 胸を躍らせ（る）means in this context:

部活の練習予定の合間にキャンプに行こうと友達とプランを立てたりもした
。そんなに遠くに行くわけではなかったのだが、中学生の僕にとって、そ
れは大冒険を意味し、胸を躍らせ、心をときめかせるに十分だった。

Is it because he was excited to go to camp, or because he had to walk a long distance to get there (which made his heart rate faster)?
