Why are you doing either of those two things? And apparently setting the default should fix that, but I wouldn't know since I never look at the frontpage.
Only problem I can see is simultaneous multi-language releases that include Japanese, those still get counted as Japanese Original Language.
Allowing you to filter by Developers using the Primary language field could probably solve that but I don't think it's possible even with the new search.
