I always thought that Maribel and Renko was one of those fan-made character, kinda like Nitori's sister, Mitori.
I treated Touhou like it was a Counter-Strike match, max gameplay, no story.
The only reason why I know about their existence is from the hentai and fan art, not the canon made materials. So tell me their important plot in all this.
