Goto Maki's "One" Mini Album Review

5 stars, awesome opening track, I pretty much liked this track the first time I heard it and it does an great job in launching the record. It's interesting because it's a rather dated sound production but it feels the most natural.

4 stars, decent track but the music production and format something that doesn't particularly draw me in. I really did enjoy the bass track and up beat sound but the chorus didn't cut it for me.

3.5 Stars, somewhat forgettable in my opinion, kind of a cookie cutter pop song, I'm sure some lyric translations would help booster it's impact. Suppose it is effective in keeping the repeat rotation fresh, you get that after a couple replays. Actually, I am enjoying Maki's voice much better after a few replays here, it starts to feel much more natural.

3.5 Stars, this one gave me the impression they were going for a throw back Maki Pop style except it's execution comes off as rather forgettable. Sound production is over done but Maki's voice and intensity helps save the track from a lower rating.

4.5 Stars, clearly the heart of the message of this record is in this song. Superb Maki vocal performance but for me its's a particular chorus and refrain structure that just doesn't want me to get into completely. No question the lyrics are the most touching here and as the live performance demonstrated, probably the most important track for Maki.

Overall, probably a four stars for the record, it's not as cohesive as I'd hope but two extremely solid tracks out of 5 on a mini album means a success. I'd still label this as a progressive pop record and not a throw back so much.
