Reminds me of this scene from Ep. 9 of Cinderella Girls. The show passes it off as a cute "betcha didn't know this lazy shit was a genius!" quirk and a deus ex machina for Candy Island in the quiz game. But rewatching the episode it's a fairly subtle affirmation of Anzu's anti-work beliefs. Market forces dictate that Anzu is more successful if she busts her ass as yet another idol in the entertainment industry than if she stays unemployed and studies pure mathematics in her spare time.

You first need to know that tattoos are, depending on the studio you go to, fairly expensive or fairly cheap. Not excluding additional fees and government taxes, a competent tattoo artist will charge you $50-60/hr. GOOD artists charge in the range of ~$80/hr and I've heard of appointment-only legends charging hourly fees in the low three figures.

Proper tattoos, of course, can't be rushed and take lots of time and care. Larger or complex tattoos are done in stages, the same way that some vaccines require timed follow-up visits after the initial dosage. Mistakes happen, of course, but not taking the time to find a reputable artist puts you at a greater risk for dodgy art, painful infections, or both. And of course, colour tattoos are more expensive than black and white tattoos.

What does this mean?

Tattoos that are small (no bigger than a dollar bill or thereabouts), have obvious defects or signs of scarring from infection, or are in black and white/made chiefly from simple geometric designs suggest that the owner has poor impulse control or wanted ink for shallow reasons. Such tattoos would have likely been applied on the spot at some strip mall/skid row studio when the bitch smoked a bowl and though it'd be fuckin' awesome to get pac-man eating power pellets and a ghost on her arm. Several of these tattoos, thematically unrelated, are the mark of the bitchii.

Larger, colorful, cleaner, and more complex tattoos indicate that the owner had planned it out for weeks. These could easily cost in the thousands, take months to complete and indicate a commitment to something - a lifestyle, gang, religion (unless the religion prohibits tattoos), or whatever the tattoo depicts. This is a green light, not an amber one, so proceed with caution.
