the prewar planning had the cruiser squadrons firing at only like 20 degrees off from directly at each other, in order to create a cross-hatch of torpedoes that would converge on the USN center around the same time as the destroyers passed through the screen
but the average wander of the surface launched torpedo at that range was like 25-30 degrees
so potentially if they had gotten their bantai bessen there's a nonzero chance the torpedo cruiser groups could have been hitting each other
