That's good. Though don't feel pressured to make it a hard-set rule or anything like that; increasing it as you become more familiar with a chart is still useful for squeezing out a few more Criticals: i.e when you're pushing scores like 980/990+.
That's why you see top rankers using faster settings like 700-850; they already know most charts intimately, and their reading and timing skill is usually sufficient for when they have something new thrown at them.

Unfortunately, the timing windows are wide enough to make many newer players (including myself when I started) fall into the trap of using very high speeds without thinking too much of it because it's comfortable.
It may be one of the reasons the game has a reputation for having a smooth learning curve at the beginning but a brutal end-game; it doesn't force to you to work on your fundamentals until it's too late. Pic extremely related.
You need to either have them from prior experience or to receive the knowledge from someone, but going by most SDVX-exclusive players I've seen play, that knowledge isn't very common yet.

webm used to be its difficulty curve.

Expect to hit a wall around 15 or so unless you're a IIDX kaiden or something.

The fun begins at 14-15 where you'll need to use one hand to press both FX while turning a knob with the other.

Also laser charts.

If you play IIDX first then you'll find SDVX to be easier to progress. The first wall people usually face is mid 14s where you need to spread one hand to press both FX buttons while turning a knob with another.

I've told many SDVX players to play IIDX to get better on button heavy charts. It works.

The major wall everyone faces would be going from easy 14s to mid 14s. Even some bottom tier 15s are easier than some 14s.

Try unzipping them under Jap locale if you haven't already.

Oh also - the bms site itself is kind of broken, try downloading the songs individually and loading them in. Should work out.
