The Sonozakis have a lot of side families but the main family could be pretty small. Mion goes on about her many uncles from branch families but her close relatives are kinda just Shion, her parents, and her grandma. Oryou and Akane don't have any (living) siblings.

Unfortunately Rika had to be an incompetent idiot to some degree for the story to even be a thing. At least she's tried a little harder in the manga so far.
I'm also in it mostly to see if the twins' arc isn't butchered this time around. If it's done well then I'll hang out until the "new" ending, whatever it turns out to be.

I think the simple fact is it's hard to give a shit about Oryou. A story about her childhood or young years feels too disconnected to the rest of the Sonozaki family that is actually interesting.
If anything, it should've been an Akane spinoff to see a closer view in how the current family situation came to be. Akane growing up to be the successor, getting disowned in her fight with Oryou, and maybe even seeing the twins show up at a very young age.

But doing something like that would have to be careful in how it deals with the Sonozaki family, instead a story about young Oryou is so far away no one really cares if things feel off.

It's because they couldn't just copy Tsumi Rena or Tatari like the other arcs, things had to be switched around to have Mion be the psycho one instead of Shion and actually make sense, but they did a terrible job of it considering how Mion and Shion were handled by Wataakashi.
Watadamashi was mostly just Watanagashi-hen with a different ending(although I'm glad it wasn't DEEN-tier early on) and Wataakashi made it clear they didn't read Meakashi.
