Putting aside that AI is putting almost the entire field of translation at the risk of destruction in the next 5-10 years...

It's not really that complicated for J->E translation, just learn the language well enough to pass the various translation tests that publishers give out employees. In the current moment (or at least the past 5 years collectively) Japanese media has been in such a commercial rise that almost every publisher is literally just hiring as many people as they can in hopes of one day simulpublishing every manga and light novel there is. I've had like... 5 online friends of mine (in the hallowed grounds of Japanese media communities of course) ask me to hook them up with a TL job but every time I'm just like, dude what do you expect, just apply. And then they do and, because they have been reading visual novels in Japanese for 5-10 years, pass easily, then become translators as well. There's really not much more to say than that. Learn Japanese -> apply -> be good enough to pass -> you are winrar. Having an N1 will help at some of the more fussy companies that aren't just satisfied with Japanese competency. That may become more relevant in the near future as publishers try to weed out AI chuds.
