Given that it seems you still partially retain your original purpose as a board for general discussions about Japan, as opposed to having turned into a dowright repository for everything Touhou and Typemoon, I think this is the best place to turn in this question.

See, we all know that it's not an overstatement that the Japanese tubes community is a world on its own and all but totally uninfluenced by anything outside of it , but there's still something about it which baffles me.

Take NicoNico as an example. How come that most of the fads which have long died down here are still moderately riding the crest of the wave over there? You can't help but notice how Levan Polka, Angry German Kid and possibly Star Wars Kid still turn up a startling amount of fan videos.
I reckoned that that widespread stament about the Japanese 'net community being years behind in some aspects was an exaggeration at first, but now I can't really help but giving it credit.

tl;dr: what's up with the Japanese Internet being stuck in 2000 forever?
