Have access to a private tracker forum or private forum where you can communicate with other users who have the invites (or know a friend in RL that happens to have one). The one holding the invite has to be one to offer obviously. Which is why many private trackers have Invite forums locked exclusively to their best users so they can properly vet who comes into the community.

Things use to be much simpler back in the day...but nowadays the internet is too unfriendly and callous to be letting anyone without passion for the content.

Occasionally, it has a tidbit of decent discussion but I haven't lurked it in awhile (three to six months). A lot of the users who I actively followed don't upload as much anymore. Black & Tan, tech5, Netty001 were among my favorites.
