Kpop's western fans are both primarily underage and/or schizo (seriously they make our schizos look like well adjusted normalfags). That coupled with some of the weirder parts of the industry like the forced plastic surgeries and ungodly hours the talent works (in addition to usually living at company dorms and barely ever leaving the place outside of performances and public appearances) tends to turn off most people from the music. The Korean language itself also filters a lot of people who got into j-pop first
Personally I enjoy some of it and went through a massive k-pop and k-rap phase in high school, but I don't keep up with it as much as I used to. I still keep some Twice, WJSN, Jay Park, and DPR Live in my rotation.
