Except if I understood that wrong, it doesn't, a 16:9 file will be deformed to fit the 4:3 ratio.

I think I know what I'll do. I'll replace the backgrounds will keeping the 16:9, and after I'm finished, I'll copy them and batch them to resize the files to 4:3 for now. Like that, they will still be ready if we manage to get the 16:9 window size.

Great. Vit from Umineo ps3fication who ripped the Umineko ps3 games told me it would be really hard and that he wouldn't have the time to do it, so I was kinda losing hope. We'll have the most optimized Higurashi game ever now.
