It's an unintuitive theory because it defies cause and effect - you can have a person go back in time and give themselves a time machine, so the time machine has no clear starting point.

But I think it's important to remember all theories of time travel are illogical in some way, the more intuitive versions still create paradoxes. So as long as a work of fiction is internally consistent I'm generally happy whichever theory they use.
